Some of the self-care techniques may help manage or reduce swelling apart from medications. Here is what you can do to cope with this condition:

  1. Avoid alcohol consumption and quit smoking.
  2. Wear compression socks.
  3. Get a moderate amount of exercise to prevent swelling.
  4. Look for alternative therapies like acupuncture and massage.
  5. Eat a healthy diet that excludes salty, processed foods and includes leafy greens, whole grains, and fruits.
